Breast
Biopsies
§
The removal of
tissue for examination and a critical step in the diagnosis of cancer.
§
The only definitive way to diagnose breast abnormalities.
§
More than 1 million breast biopsies are performed each year
in the U.S.
§
Approximately eight out of ten breast biopsies are benign.
The
Mammotome Breast Biopsy System
§
Helps Doctors accurately diagnose breast abnormalities.
§
Performed in less than 1 hour; requires only a single 2-3 mm
incision, about the size of a match head; no stitches; done in the office
under local anesthesia.
§
Offers women an alternative to an open surgical biopsy, the
most common biopsy method, which can leave scars and result in
disfigurement of the breast.
How
It Works
§
Dr.
Pandya uses ultrasound imaging to direct a probe into the suspicious area
of the breast and, the Mammotome gently vacuums, cuts and removes tissue
for examination and evaluation.
§
The
probe is inserted once and leaves an incision so small no stitches are
required.
§
Women
are able to resume normal activity immediately following procedure with
only a small adhesive strip to cover the incision site.
