Pancreas
is an important gland that has both endocrine and exocrine
function. The products of endocrine pancreas include insulin
and other hormones. The exocrine pancreas produces powerful
digestive enzymes that help in digestion of proteins, fats
and starches present in the food we eat.
Any
injury to the pancreas produces pancreatitis as a result of
spillage of pancreatic enzymes in the surrounding tissues.
There are 2 most common causes of pancreatitis.
1.
Gallstones Pancreatitis is caused by blockage of
pancreatic duct by passing gall stones. 2.
Alcoholic Pancreatitis is caused by over indulgence
of alcohol.
Pancreatitis can be
very severe in about 5 % of cases and if not adequately
managed can be fatal. Gallstone
pancreatitis risk can be managed by removing gallbladder
surgically when gall stones are identified in gall bladder
and usually this is done by an experienced Laparoscopic
Surgeon. If you want to know more about Laparoscopic
